The art of Uttam Kumar Baisak takes its inspiration from the day to day lives of people. His imagery too revolves around things they experience in their daily lives. But the very fact that he freezes them at a moment in time gives them a sense of drama above day to day events. Buying a fruit for the beloved from a street side vendor becomes ‘Forbidden Fruit’, the fruit vendor a god, with his verbal apposite, a dog, at the other end. So many puns and references come alive as they never do in life, but only in art.
